The village - Labastide Esparbairenque - has about 35 people living in it year round. The other thirty inhabitants come from Amsterdam, New York, Dublin, Belgium, and Germany and include former La Muse residents, writers, translators, musicians…
It’s also a great village because of its ideal altitude (440 meters) - away from pollution, as well as its position away from the humidity of the river at the bottom of the valley.
Labastide is also the last Mediterranean village before you hit the Atlantic side of the Montagne Noire.
