Dutch writer Thomas Bouwmeester

Who:

Thomas Bouwmeester

Where:

The Netherlands, Holland

What:

Tom is close to obtaining his bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Next to that, he’s been active with creative writing for about four years now.

He has won local short story writing competitions and is currently working on a novella.

During his stay at La Muse he was inspired by other writers to start writing in English as well.

In His Own Words:

In short stories, I like to experiment with everything. From a surrealistic story about orange-like balls suddenly growing from the ceiling to a horror story about a Nazi who has to deliver a secret package in post-war Argentina. I’ve tried it all and even made some money out of it.

In my novella, and as well in the broader worldview I’m trying to develop as a writer, I’m captivated by what the German theologian Rudolf Otto called the mysterium tremendum ac fascinans: the mystery that is frightening and fascinating at the same time.

You can find it in a thunderstorm, for example, or – as is the case in my novella – in dreams.
