Who: Eckart Woertz
Where: Current location, Princeton and Barcelona.
What: Eckart is an economist specializing in the Middle East and the Gulf region. He has an MA in Middle Eastern Studies and a PhD in Economics from Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Nuremberg, in Germany.
Eckart’s interests include energy issues, the political economy of the Middle East, and financial markets. He’s a regular contributor to newspapers such as Forbes, the Financial Times, Der Spiegel, The National and Gulf News, as well as regularly appearing on Bloomberg, the BBC, Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya. Arabian Business Magazine named him one of the ten most influential expatriates in the Gulf region in 2009.
Eckart was working on his book Oil for Food while at La Muse. The book is about Middle East food security and international agro-investments and will be published in 2013 by Oxford University Press.
